Summer Workshops at The Yarn Shop

Felt Making:

Painting With Wool
This technique is a combination of needle felting and traditional wet felting. Laurel Orthmeyer will lead us through the process of creating a unique "picture" with colored wool.
Saturday, July 12, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.. $40 includes all materials.

Nuno Felt Scarf
In this process we will explore the effects of felting wool onto silk fabric, creating a fine, gauzy scarf. Laurel Orthmeyer will help unleash your creativity!
Sunday, July 13, 1 - 4 p.m. $30 includes all materials.

Weaving:

Learning to Weave on a Simple Loom
In this weekend-long workshop we will cover the basics of project planning, winding a warp, "dressing" the loom, weaving off and finishing. If you've been wanting to learn to weave, this class will get you going!
(There are looms available to borrow during the workshop.) Taught by Barb French
Saturday and Sunday, July 26 - 27. 12 - 4 p.m. each day. $60 includes weaving materials.

Rag Rug Inspiration! Weaving Workshop
In this two-day workshop, Susan Lohmuller will encourage beginning rag weavers and inspire experienced rag weavers to add wonderful new techniques to their repertoire. Susan will bring many samples and examples for discussion and inspiration. Time will be spent weaving samples on all of the looms, round-robin fashion. You will leave this workshop with a notebook full of rag weaving samples and a head bursting with ideas!
Saturday and Sunday, August 16 & 17, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. each day. Cost: $95.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate weaving skills. Must be able to thread and beam a warp, and read a threading-, tie-up-, and treadling-draft. A four- or eight-shaft loom is required.

Dying:

Low-Water Method of Dying Cotton Fabrics
In this all-day workshop, Susan Lohmuller will share the low-water dying method that she has developed for dyeing the 100% cotton fabric she uses in her rag weaving. Eash student will dye three different colors. No experience necessary! Beginning dyers will enjoy this workshop as well as veterans. Come prepared to get messy!
Friday, August 15 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.. Cost: $55 (includes materials fee for dyes).

Spinning

Learn to Spin on a Drop Spindle:
A great learner's tool, the drop spindle is an elegantly simple device for spinning your own yarn. Whether you wish to control the creative process from beginning to end, learn spinning basics to apply to the spinning wheel, or just enjoy playing with fiber, this class will help you meet your goals.
Join us for either of these two sessions:
Monday, July 21 from 6 - 8pm; or Thursday, July 31 from 6 - 8pm. $15 (includes materials).
